In Slovakia employment grew fastest from EU counties in 1.Q 2008
According to that statistic, the employment most rose in Slovakia. For the 1st quarter of 2008 compared with previous quarter, employment rose by 1,3 %, then following the Austria with 0,8 % growth. Compared with the first quarter of 2007, employment grew by 1.6 % in both the euro area and the EU27 in the first quarter of 2008, after +1.8 % in both zones in the fourth quarter of 2007. Eurostat estimates that, in the first quarter of 2008, 226.0 million men and women were employed in the EU27, of which 145.7 million were in the euro area .
In Slovakia, the employment rose by 2,8 % compared with the previous year. The decreasing of employment was noticed only in Hungaria (-1,7 %). The highest growth of employment from all EU countries has Lithuania with 5,6 %.
In opinion of Employment institute, the growth of employment in Slovakia is very positive, but we should not leave behind the unemployed labour forces, because it would reach its borders. Despite this significant growth, Slovakian labour market still suffers highest rate of unemployment from all EU members and by far the highest long term unemployment. So the tools of active policies should be target on vanishing that Slovak paradoxes in labour market.
